Hello!
This week has been pretty lively actually, so I have things to talk about!
Last Friday after I finished with emails, I went back to the apartments, and was invited by Elder Buers (one of the APs) to go to his apartment, and learn how to make sushi! We made a few rolls, and it was super good.

Sunday we had a fireside from the 1st Counselor in the Mission Presidency, President McKnight, and his wife. Pres McKnight shared some stories from when he was growing up, and shared a few hunting stories, and it made me feel like I was back at a family party listening to my uncles telling hunting stories.
After the fireside was over, President Fenn gave the mission special permission to stay up past curfew to view the Super Wolf Blood Moon. A few of us elders who were rather adventurous decided that we would hike Ensign Peak, to be able to view the moon better. So my companion and I, along with Elders, Clark, Buers, Allison, Walker, Slack, and others hiked up the peak. It was an absolute blast. The eclipse was really cool to see, and really made me do a lot of reflection on life, and on myself. On the way down, Elder Slack was having some major troubles, and after trying to have a person on either side of him to help him walk down, I put him on my back and carried him down the mountain. It was such an honor to be able to serve him like that.

The Family History Library was open for MLK day, and so I worked that day along with the rest of my district. It was really a good day, and wasn’t too slow, which was a worry of ours. For lunch, my comp and I along with Elder Devine, and Elder Peterson went to Cheesecake Factory for lunch. It was pretty all right. After we closed at 5, we went to a dinner to welcome new missionaries into the mission, and then were given permission to watch Prince of Egypt (we watch a lot of movies, but I am not complaining at all. It’s a really good break). When we were about 10 minutes into the film, President Fenn came in and had an announcement to make. When he and his wife were first extended their call to serve here, they were called for a period of two years, and this June would make 2 years. President informed us that the First Presidency had extended his calling, and that he would be staying another year as our mission president! This made me absolutely elated! When I first got into the mission, and really started to get into the groove of being here, I realized that he wouldn’t be my mission president the whole time, and that really was a saddening thought, because he is amazing. But now I get him for another year, and that makes me super stoked.
On Tuesday we got new young Elders into the mission, and that has been going pretty well for the most part. Something about getting fresh faces into the mission really makes the whole mission have more energy. We haven’t had anyone new since November, and it was only 2 new people. This incoming group has 7, and that seems to give up plenty of new energy.
Well, that's all for this week! Hope that you all enjoyed yourselves, and that life is treating you well!
Love,
Elder James Bartholomew
